SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend gives you the browning, rising, texture, moistness and molasses-like flavor characteristic of baked goods made with brown sugar but with half the sugar. I've read (Dr Bernstein's book) that the tablets of Splenda and other sweetners are usually sugar-free whereas the packets and granulated do contain sugar. I don't spike with Splenda, whether powdered or in foods and drinks but then I don't use much.
is splenda bad for you, The splenda makes cakes not rise, so the cake is a short one, but it is sweet enough. I also used splenda with some cream cheese, butter and a tablespoon of milk to make the icing. I tried, and failed miserably, to make shortbread with Splenda. But maybe it was because I used my fave recipe and only substituted splenda. I know that sugar adds the nice texture to shortbread so maybe my hopes were too high.

That's one of the selling points of Splenda-- you don't have to revise your recipes. And according to the "Cooking with Stevia" web site, 1 cup of sugar equals 12 teaspoons (or 4 tablespoons or 1/4 cup) powdered stevia. That would make more sense ...
